Senator Obama Sweeps Weekend Primaries and Caucuses, Senator Clinton Retools and Battles On, Former Governor Huckabee Continues to Amass Delegates

In the race for the coveted nomination of both the Democratic and Republican parties, the two remaining viable candidates in each party vow to fight on to the end.

In all, five states and the US Virgin Islands held caucuses and primaries this past weekend.  Here are the Democratic results:

State Primary/Caucus Obama Clinton Edwards
Maine (99%) 2/10 Caucus 59% 36%
Louisiana 2/9 Primary 57% 36% 3%
Nebraska 2/9 Caucus 68% 32%
Virgin Islands 2/9 Caucus Winner
Washington 2/9 Caucus 68% 31%

In other news, Senator Clinton has now replaced campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle.  Maggie Williams, former Chief of Staff for First Lady Hillary Clinton is the new campaign manager.  Senator Clinton also gave a boost to her campaign in the form of a $5 million personal loan.  As a matter of course, the Clinton campaign set up a personal challenge to her supporters that raised an additional $3 million in 24 hours.  Once meeting that goal, the campaign immediately initiated a new challenge to raise $6 million in 72 hours. By contrast, Senator Barack Obama raised a record $32 million in the month of January.

On the Republican side, Senator John McCain holds a commanding delegate lead over Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Representative Ron Paul.  Both Governor Huckabee and Representative Paul remain in the race, with Mr. Huckabee pledging to stay in until the end.  Republican results for this past weekend are as follows:

State Primary/Caucus McCain Huckabee Paul
Kansas 2/9 Caucus 24% 60% 11%
Louisiana 2/9 Primary 42% 43% 5%
Washington 2/9 Primary 26% 24% 21%
